Riley Klar

Graduate Sustainability Consultant

Riley is completing an MSc in Environmental Consultancy at the University of Plymouth, where his studies have focused on the application of environmental assessment, sustainability and climate resilience within real-world consultancy work. His academic background has developed his understanding of environmental data, ecological assessment and the wider relationship between development, climate change and environmental protection. Prior to studying his master’s degree, Riley completed a BSc in Marine Biology at the University of Plymouth, which gave him a strong grounding in ecology, marine systems and biological monitoring.


Since joining JAW, Riley has gained practical experience supporting sustainability assessments across several live projects. He has developed a working understanding of the BREEAM process, including how design information, technical reports and project evidence are reviewed against assessment criteria. This has helped him build confidence in interpreting sustainability requirements and presenting evidence clearly for assessor review.


Riley has supported the preparation of BREEAM reports and evidence reviews for projects including 12 Golden Square, Newington Causeway, Creekside PBSA and Aston Grange. His work has involved reviewing project documentation, extracting relevant evidence from drawings and consultant reports, and helping to organise information so that it can be used effectively within assessment submissions. Through this work, he has gained experience across refurbishment, mixed-use, residential and retail development projects.


Alongside his BREEAM work, Riley has assisted with WELL product evidence reviews, helping to assess whether manufacturer information is suitable for project requirements. This has involved reviewing product documentation and preparing clear evidence requests for suppliers. He is continuing to develop his technical understanding of sustainability assessment tools and the role they play in supporting low-impact, healthy and resilient buildings.
